Busoga Kingdom’s king has responded to reports of Chiefs overthrowing him, saying that he is the legitimate Issebantu of Busoga Kingdom.
The overthrow of King Nadiope Gabula was announced in a statement titled, “Public Notice and Declaration” dated 3rd January 2022 signed by the undersigned Hereditary Saza Chiefs Royal Council of Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga.
“Now therefore the Chiefs Royal Council upon removal of HRH William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV as seating Issebantu Kyabazing, unanimously reaffirm and declares HRH Edward Columbus Wambuzi Muloki!, The Zibondo of Bulamoji as the newly elected Issebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga as it were on 31st October 2008,” partially states the notice.
However, in response to the above, King Nadiope’s office has issued a statement trashing reports of his overthrow, ”Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga we implore the general public, our partners, friends of Busoga and all peace-loving Ugandans to disregard the said Notice and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” says the Kingdom in a statement.
The statement adds that Nadiope Gabula is the legitimate Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom ‘as duly elected on the 24h August 2014, enthroned on the 13th September 2014 and duly Gazetted by the government of Uganda on the 24th June 2019 under General Notice No. 649 of 2019 and is firmly in office and performing his functions as enshrined under the Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga Constitution and the relevant national laws.’
The Kingdom adds that the purported dismissal and or election of a new Kyabazinga is false, illegal, misleading and intended at creating confusion and disunity in the Kingdom which all peace-loving Basoga and Ugandans should shun and condemn.
”The Kyabazinga once elected under the Constitution of Busoga and our culture reigns till death and the organs of the Obwa Kyabazinga to it; the Busoga Lukiiko, the Cabinet, Clans Council, Abambedha Council, Chief Royal Council among others are duly performing their mandate and there should be no cause for alarm,” adds the statement.
The statement alleges that the Kingdom has in the past seven years since the enthronement of HRH the Isebantu Kyabazinga registered tremendous success in areas of cultural promotion, unity, education, health, strategic partnerships among others which King Nadiope thinks should actually be considered by those fighting him.
”Finally, the Obwa Kyabazinga re-assures the general public that these temporary developments just like several others before shall be dealt with and managed and encourages everyone to remain calm and observe law and order,” adds the statement.
