As a way of saving lives of Ugandan patients in need of blood transfusion, the Indian Community in Uganda under their organization, Indian Association-Uganda has created an on-line App dubbed ‘Blood4Uganda’, aimed at coordinating hospitals to quickly identify and locate willing donors of blood and consequently rapidly respond to those in need of blood donations during critical times by showing the available free blood through the partnering hospitals.
Whereas in the past the National Blood Bank has been depending on public campaigns and activations for blood donations, this latest App will allow individual donors to alert medical facilities and the NBB on where and how to locate them for blood donations, thereby easing the collection exercise supplimenting to Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) efforts.
This Mobile App is now available from App store on Android and iOS, and will officially be launched this Thursday evening 27 Feb 2020 at tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia’s Kabira Country club in Bukoto, a Kampala surbub.
According to Mr. Kishor Dattani, a community co-ordinator for community blood donation drive at the Indian Association-Uganda, the launch will be officiated by Uganda’s prime minister Ndugu Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda.
“The objective of the app is to create a database for the volunteers who can be approached in time of need and to achieve goal of No shortage of Blood. The request for all of you is to register on the App and forward this message to your family and friends within Uganda, such that they can know about it,” Kishor further explained to this report while attending late Jinesh Majithia’s cremation at Naguru grounds yesterday.
It should be noted that the National Blood Bank recently announced a shortage of blood in stock and urged all Ugandans who are able to donate blood.
