Kazo: Police’s Flying Squad have arrested five suspected men alleged to have been criminals targeting Boda Boda Cyclists around Kazo and neighboring districts.
Spy Uganda has learnt that this gang of five, that is; Clesensio Kiiza, Gordius Ahebwa, John Tumuhairwe, Sam Ssemanda and Enoth Kabagambe all residents of Kazo district had organized several attacks on cyclists.
According to Richard Ecega the Rwizi Regional Police Commander, the arrested suspects are alleged to have been killing cyclists in Kazo, Kiruhura, Ibanda, and Ssembabule among other neighbouring districts.
He, however, added that the gang leader only identified as Akandwanaho is still on the run and being hunted by police.
Sources from police indicate that the group has confessed to having murdered 13 cyclists and stealing their motorcycles.
Murders targeting cyclists have been rampant in the Ankole sub-region with Ntungamo, Kazo and Kiruhura topping the list.
Police records state that 15 cyclists were killed between September and October.
Following the arrest, residents of Kazo thanked the police for the operation, saying it will help to reduce the high rate of criminality in their area.
