Kampala: A couple of National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s district administrative secretaries are under police coolers and others on hunt following allegations of chopping Special Interest Groups (SIGs) elections facilitation fee, party director for communication, Emmanuel Dombo said.
He revealed that, the party provided Sh5000 as facilitation to every party flag bearer who participated in the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) elections at the village level held recently, however, the party leadership has been receiving complaints that this was not perfected hence a call for the action of law.
Dombo adds that so far they have arrested Buikwe administrative secretary, Saudah Nankya Sentamu although was later released on police bond after she allegedly paid Sh10m out of the Sh20.5m she purportedly swindled.
He said, ” Saudah Nankya Sentamu was arrested but later released on police bond after she allegedly paid Sh10m out of the Sh20.5m she purportedly swindled and she has so far returned over sh8m as we continue to hunt the one for Luweero district who is run.”
However, the party director of legal, Oscar Kihika said that an internal committee has been established to adduce enough evidence in the matter.
“All those implicated will face the party disciplinary measures such as termination of their services on top of criminal charges,” Kihika said.
In the same vein, the party’s electoral commission has released a statement warning the district electoral commission officers against illegal deletion and addition of voters in the registers an event that has since caused havoc between party members.
The statement reads in full;
“ALL NRM DISTRICT ELECTIONS OFFICERS, ALL NRM DISTRICT CHAIRPERSONS.
RE: ADDITION AND DELETION OF NAMES DURING DISPLAY O THE NRM VOTERS REGISTER
Take note that there shall be no addition and deletion of names during the Display of the NRM Voters Register.
A such;
1. All NRM Members whose names get added during Display of the Register will not be allowed to vote in NRM Primaries.
2. All NRM Members whose names get deleted during Display of the Register will be allowed to vote in NRM Primaries.
3. For Villages where there is no Register, fresh registration permitted with approval of the NRM Village Executive- Committee.”
