The National Resistance Movement (NRM) prevailed over People Power and other opposition politicians after its candidates won the Hoima and Kaboong Woman Member of Parliament By-elections held September 26, 2019.
Harriet Businge Babirye won the Hoima Woman MP with 33301 votes after a stiff contest with Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Asinansi Nyakato, who scooped 28789 votes.
In Kaboong district Christine Tubo Atyang got 22532 votes and trounced FDC candidate Judith Nalibe Adyaka who got 1692 votes.
Shortly after Electoral Commission releasing the results last night, NRM Secretary General took to social media and wrote thus; “Congratulations to Ms Christine Tubo Nakwang and Ms Businge Harriet for winning the Kaabong woman MP and Hoima District Woman MP elections.”
However, the results, especially those from Hoima, have since been received with mixed feelings mainly among opposition politicians because of the initial results which circulated on social media last night, indicating that Nyakato was leading according to preliminary results.
But the Electoral Commission was quick to come out and issue a statement indicating that all these purported results showing Nyakato to be ahead of Businge were fake news.
