Members of Generation Seven (G7), a National Resistance Movement (NRM) pressure group, have urged youths to maintain peace, respect Ugandan laws governing public assemblies, and to stop confronting security personnel.
This is because confrontations between the youth and police have so far led to the death of two people power supporters to wit Ritah Nabukenya, who was knocked dead in Nakawa and Dan Kyeyune, who was shot dead in Nansana early this week.
Gilbert Olinga, the national coordinator Generation Seven, revealed this during a presser hosted at Thobani Centre in Kampala, where he cautioned security personnel to be careful, behave professionally while enforcing law and order, so as not to be lured into violence by People Power pressure group youth who provoke them by throwing stones and physically attacking them.
“All youths who turn violent with the intention of fighting security men and women holding guns may end being shot because these security officers are humans beings too who become angry when provoked.”
He also advised the young generation below 35 years to appreciate the government’s efforts of fighting hard to restore peace and freedom which has enabled them to achieve the little they have, compared the situation in the 1980s when Uganda was performing poorly in all sectors of the economy.
“We are Generation 7 because we were born in the Museveni generation. We are therefore the generation which has benefited from this government but as our brothers in the opposition look at the bad side of government, for us we are focusing on the good to keep the legacy of President Museveni flourishing even after his retiring,” said Olinga.
Steven Mukasa, the pressure group’s spokesperson, reminded Ugandans to participate in the Electoral Commission process of checking for their names on the voters register for conformity, as they wait to make their decision in the 2021 election.
