Number Of Patients In Mulago’s ICU Shoot Higher As Omicron Cases Increase Rapidly, 1809 New Cases Detected

Kampala: The Ministry of Health has announced that it has detected 1,809 new COVID-19 cases from tests done on 28 December 2021 shooting the cumulative confirmed cases to 139,079.

The breakdown of the new cases is: 1,796 Alerts And Contacts:Kampala (912), Wakiso (341), Kiruhura (136), Luweero (103), Mbale (55), Jinja (46), Kibuku (25), Soroti (25), Busia (26), Gulu (15), Nakasongola (15), Buliisa (9), Oyam (8), Buikwe (7), Bududa (6), Hoima (5), Rakai (5).

Other are from; Mbarara (8),Amuru (8), Iganga (2), Kabarole (2), Kiryandongo (2), Kagadi (2), Wakiso (2), Kalungu (1), Tororo (2), Moyo (1),Namisindwa (1), Masindi (1), Arua (1), Adjumani (2), Kanungu (1) Kyotera (18), Masaka (2), Mukono (1) 13 Truck drivers; Kyotera (11), Kampala (1), Amuru (1).

The Ministry’s spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona has revealed that the above increasing infections have seen the number of patients battling the new variant-Omicron increasing in Mulago Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Units (HDU).

‘Much as the Omicron variant is believed to be less severe, the number of those getting admitted into HDU and ICU is slowly increasing,” says Ainebyoona.

He adds that Mulago so far has 40 patients, out of which 28 are under HDU and 12 are in ICU.

”Dear reader, get vaccinated and don’t lower your guards. Keep vigilant to see 2022,” adds Ainebyoona.
