National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, has accused security forces of secretly planting surveillance equipment in his offices and vehicles during last week’s controversial raid on the party’s headquarters.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Bobi Wine expressed outrage over the manner in which security operatives stormed the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, sealing off roads from Bwaise to Kibbiri roundabout before forcefully ransacking the premises.

He claimed that beyond causing destruction, the operatives used the raid as an opportunity to install tracking and listening devices. “After inspecting the premises, we discovered suspicious items. Experts have since confirmed that these were surveillance devices,” he alleged.

Bobi Wine further revealed that a tracking device was found in one of his personal vehicles, which he often uses as an alternative to his official transport. “We found a tracker in a car I use when I don’t want to be in my official vehicles,” he disclosed. Additionally, he claimed a hidden camera was discovered in his office, raising concerns about possible espionage against him and his party.

Condemning the raid, Bobi Wine criticized security forces for what he described as intimidation tactics, arguing that such actions only expose the state’s desperation. “These people act shamelessly. This isn’t a show of strength but a sign of weakness,” he said.

He further denounced the search as illegal, saying no NUP officials were allowed to witness it, and accused operatives of breaking doors unnecessarily—even those that were unlocked.

As inspections continue, Bobi Wine vowed to resist what he called systematic attempts to undermine the opposition, reaffirming that his party remains undeterred despite increasing pressure from state agencies.
