NUP’s Bigirwa, Journalist Pedson Kareire Remanded To Kitalya Over Offensive Communication, Libel

Kampala: Former Kamuli municipality MP aspirant, also NUP youth leader for Eastern Uganda Bigirwa Moses and Pedson Kareire, a journalist with drone media were on Thursday arraigned before Buganda Road court on charges of offensive communication and libel.

Bigirwa last week was arrested for allegedly demanding a ransom worth shs100million from Deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among if she didn’t want her name to be tainted via social media.

Later he was reportedly lured to Among’s residence in Nakasero where he was arrested by parliamentary police.

Bigirwa appeared jointly with pedson Kareire, whom CID police PRO Charles Twine said was working with Bigirwa and others still atlarge in threatening city tycoons and politicians to either bleed hefty monies or risk being published in the media and social media platforms. Kareire has reportedly been using his drone media for such deadly missions as Bigirwa pushes in demanding for the ransom.

The presiding Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu remanded the duo to Kitalya government prisons till the 19, November 2021 for further mention of their case.

It’s alleged the duo has been behind bars at SIU Kireka since their arrest last week. The suspects however told court that they’ve been tortured ever since they were arrested. They denied the charges before being remanded to Kitalya.
