Ochola Issues New Directives On Return Of Flying Squad

The Inspector General of Police Mr.Okoth Martin Ochola (OMO) has issued new directives on the re-deployment of the fierce police flying squad operations, the spyUganda exclusively reports.

According to highly placed sources at Kibuli Police Training School (PTC), IGP Ochola instructed the Director Criminal Investigations Directorate boss (CIID) AIGP Grace Akullo on how she should work with the flying squad.

In a communication from the Mr.Ochola to Director CIID Grace Akullo, all flying squad members country wide are to report to Kibuli PTC for vetting,where afterwards they shall be working under the directives of the CIID Director.

Another source also told this website that the vetted members of the flying squad shall apply in case they still have interest of working under newly formed flying squad.

The spokesperson for CIID Directorate SP Vincent Ssekate said,” The AIGP Grace Akullo is in process of reviewing the operations of a new flying squad to do Police’s constitutional mandate”.

Ssekate also noted that the exercise was in response to the 18th May directive to CIID Director to recompose the unit where, officers would have to re-apply under the new guidelines.

The former Head of the Flying squad Unit, ACP Herbert Muhangi who was reverted to general duties and appointed head of audit Man power under human resource directorate has also not yet handed over the office awaiting for appointment of a new flying squad unit.

The decision by the Inspector General of Police Mr. Okoth Martins Ochola in April 2018 was due to mounting allegations of gross misconduct and torture of suspects by its operatives.
