Dr Kenneth Olusegun Omona, who was recently appointed by President Yoweri Museveni, officially started his duties as the Principal Private Secretary to the President.
Omona, a member of The Pan-African Pyramid and one of the most committed new generation of Pan-Africanists started his duties on Friday by addressing the State House department heads as he took over the PPS office from his predecessor Molly Kamukama.
Mrs Kamukama, who officially handed over the office to Omona without any hiccups, was also later vetted by Parliament as she moves to oversee the Economic Monitoring ministerial docket to which she was appointed by the president in the recent reshuffle.
In the entire new cabinet and government reshuffle, whether on radio and TV talk shows or phone-in programs, on electronic and social media, almost everybody was happy with the appointment of Dr. Omona.
NRM historicals and veterans, senior and junior cadres and mobilizers and even members of the Opposition including DP President General Norbert Mao and former Secretary General Dr. Lulume Bayiga, could castigate others but not Omona whom they referred to as a loyalist to the President and the system, but very ‘humane’.
Another equally very mesmirized NRM cadre on the appointment of Dr.Omona as PPS is David Rusa from Tooro, whom he said is proud to have been the first one to identify and recommend to the then RDC of his home district Kaberamaido to assist him when he first stood for Member of Parliament.
Dr.Omona, a former Member of Parliament for Kaberamaido County, has until now been the NRM Deputy Treasurer. He is the sixth PPS after Sserwanga Lwanga, Amelia Kyambadde, Grace Akello, Mary Amajo, and Molly Kamukama. Others were Kabanda Bill, Joan Magei and Francis Mukama.
The outgoing PPS, Ms. Molly Kamukama, said she was glad she is handing over the office to Dr. Omona who is a staunch cadre with whom she was recruited from the same university.
“I am glad that a cadre is replacing me to serve the President. I want to thank the President who saw it fit to appoint me to oversee the economy of Uganda. As a Minister, I will continue to serve him to make our country better. I thank the State House team, including the Office of the Vice-President, for their support,” she said.
