Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate for the Omoro County Member of Parliament seat Owani Dick Denis has been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen this morning, according to the party president.
This morning Ugandans woke up to a viral tweet from the FDC party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat alleging that his member was kidnapped on his way to Omoro from the Rupiny radio talk show in Gulu at 8:30pm.
Amuriat twitter, ”He was on his way to Omoro from Rupiny radio talk show in Gulu at 8:30pm when this happened. We highly suspected this to be the handwork of the usual suspects fearing the strength of the FDC in this particular by-election.”

By press time, details about the above were still scanty. Efforts to reach the FDC spokesperson Hon.Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda were futile.
It’s worth noting that the Electoral Commission declared the Omoro County parliamentary seat vacant after the untimely death of its member of parliament and former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah following a short illness in March.
Mr.Owani is one of 10 candidates who have since expressed interest in this seat. According to the Electoral Commission, the candidates have already picked nomination forms which are set for today May 12th 2022.
The parties tussling for the seat include the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), National Unity Platform (NUP) and Justice Forum (JEEMA).
Analysts have placed the late Jacob Oulanyah’s son Andrew Ojok Oulanyah (NRM) and Owani Dick Denis (FDC) as the front runners in the upcoming by-election. Watch the space for the latest updates on this!
