One Dead, 6 Injured After Gas Cylinder Explosion

Banda: At least one person is confirmed have died and six others sustained injuries after a gas cylinder exploded at a Metal Fabrication workshop at Banda, along Jinja Road, on Thursday evening.

The police identified the deceased as Diana Tubulihwa, who died on the way to the hospital, because of severe wounds she had sustained.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that “The six who sustained injuries include Sylvia Nanono, a receptionist at the metal fabrication workshop, Barnabas Kasaawa-the supervisor, Mary Namukwe- the secretary and Sharon Nekesa, a cleaner at the same facility. The others are Emmanuel Wekoyera, Evas Opio.”

Shortly after the explosion, the Police Bomb Squad reached the area where the incident had happened and declared the place as a crime scene for an unspecified period. Detectives have since kicked off investigations into the matter.

However, a similar accident happened last month in Namayumba, Wakiso District, where two scrap dealers identified as Taddeo Jagenda, 51, and Suleiman Kinobe, 73 died and six others sustained injuries after a gas cylinder exploded.
