The joint operation by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo operating in Mwalika Valley under the 15th battalion yesterday rescued three (03) more children, after an encounter with a group of ADF rebels where two rebels were put out of action and a rocket propelled gun (RPG) launcher was recovered from the terrorists.

These have been confirmed by Major Bilal Katamba Public Information Officer UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa.

He said the 03 children who were in dire health conditions and need of medical attention are currently undergoing treatment and monitoring by the UPDF medical personnel.

Relatedly, following their surrender to the joint forces on 6th August, 2023, ADF rebels yesterday led the joint forces to where they had hidden their weapons and subsequently recoverd the two submachine guns (SMGs).

The joint forces continue to comb the Valley of Mwalika to clear it of all terrorists and continue with their efforts of rescuing more children and women.

In November 2021, Uganda and the DR Congo signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a joint military operation code-named “Operation Shujaa” against the ADF in Eastern DR Congo following escalated attacks by the rebels in both countries in 2021.
