Kampala: Inspectorate of Government has vowed this round to stop all forms of corruption in public entities and make the corrupt poorer.
In a joint media statement to commemorate international anti-corruption day due on 9th December under the theme: ‘Promoting Active Citizen Participation in Social Accountability, Betty Kamya called upon all state Anti-corruption agencies to handle the corrupt with a tough hand by squeezing them, to cough all government monies.
”We must make the life of the corrupt very hard to wipe corruption out this country, besides sending them to jail we must redeem all stolen money to the consolidated government and make culprits poorer by selling their properties,” Kamya stressed.
Kamya said has a mutual working relationship with a couple of government agencies to end corruption among them including,
Office of the Auditor General, Public Procurement & Disposal Assets Authority, State House Anti-corruption Unit, Criminal Investigations Directorate, Internal Security Agency, Office of Director of Public Prosecution, Financial Intelligence Authority and Directorate of Ethics and Integrity.
According to Betty Kamya President Yoweri Museveni will preside over international anti-corruption day on 9th December at Kololo to launch the Lifestyle Audit Campaign which Uganda intends to use in the new year to fight corruption.
The United Nations Convention Against Corruption under resolution 58/4 of 31st October 2003 designated 9th December as the International anti-corruption day for a global observance to promote awareness about the dangers of corruption and set strategies to eliminate it.
The Convention states, in part, that the UN is; concerned about the seriousness of problems and threats posed by corruption to the stability and security of societies, undermining the institutions and values of democracy, ethical values and justice and jeopardizing sustainable development and the rule of law.
And delegates to the convention the power to: promote and strengthen measures to prevent and combat corruption more efficiently and effectively promote, facilitate and support international cooperation and technical assistance in the prevention of and fight against corruption [and] promote integrity, accountability and proper management of public affairs and public property.
