Today in Tooro, the region mourns the loss of a prominent cultural artist, Araali Kigambo, who passed away due to alleged negligence by the staff at Buhinga Referral Hospital. The incident has ignited a storm of outrage, with many calling for immediate action to address the deplorable state of healthcare at the hospital.

Prince David Kiijanangoma Araali, a crown prince of Tooro, has voiced his concerns, stating:
“Whoever is on this ‘State House Comrades Forum,’ and I know Afande Nakalema and General Rusoke are on here, plus other Authorities that are part of this forum, and you have the mandate, kindly intervene and save the people of Tooro at Buhinga Hospital. Please go and straighten up the mess at Buhinga Hospital.

I voice this concern for the voiceless people in Tooro as an Opinion Leader. Let the money that Government put up to build Buhinga Referral Hospital not go to waste because of a few inhumane heads of Departments at the Hospital. People pay their Taxes so that such entities can be built to deliver effective services to the communities.”

According to reports, Kigambo Araali’s death was preventable but occurred due to sheer negligence. Witnesses allege that medical staff claimed critical equipment was dirty and did not act promptly to save his life. This incident has brought to light longstanding issues at Buhinga Referral Hospital, including allegations of arrogance and corruption among administrators, as well as indifference from nurses and doctors, with some demanding bribes for treatment.

The Prince emphasized that the government has invested heavily in Buhinga Hospital, yet service delivery remains appalling. He called for the immediate arrest or dismissal of the hospital’s administrators to restore public confidence and save lives.

Who Was Kigambo Araali?

Araali Kigambo was a celebrated cultural artist in Tooro, known for his dedication to preserving the region’s rich traditions through music, dance, and storytelling. Among his most notable songs are “Ekitaguriro,” “Tooro Nkulinda,” and “Ensi Nungi.” These pieces celebrated the beauty and resilience of Tooro’s culture, becoming anthems of pride for the region.

He was a beloved figure whose work united communities and showcased the beauty of Tooro’s cultural heritage. His death has left a significant void, sparking widespread grief and calls for justice.

The people of Tooro are demanding urgent intervention from the government to address the alleged systemic failures at Buhinga Hospital. The outpouring of complaints on social media highlights the community’s frustration, with many calling for leaders like Afande Nakalema and General Rusoke to take swift action.

As the Tooro community continues to mourn the loss of Araali Kigambo, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for accountability and reform in Uganda’s healthcare system. May the soul of Araali Kigambo rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations.
