Over 300 Accidents Registered In First Week Of 2023, 79 Killed, 245 Injured

A total of 340 accidents occurred in the first week of 2023 and claimed 79, injured 245 road users.

This has been revealed by Uganda Police Traffic Directorate Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima who says 59 of the accidents were fatal and 106 minor.

”Most of these accidents were caused by careless driving including; drivers who drift from one lane to the other, driving while speaking on mobile phones and overtaking in dangerous spots,” says Nampiima.

She added that most of the accidents occurred during festivities.

These come few hours after Lwakhakha accident involving a Kenyan bus that killed 21 people and injured 49 others.

Regional police spokesman Rogers Taitika said that most of the victims were of Kenyan nationality and eight Ugandans were killed.
