Over 400 Accidents Registered In One Week, Leaves 89 Dead!

Kampala: According to Uganda Police Traffic and Road Directorate report, from 28th Feb to 06th March 2022 a total of 414 accidents occurred and out of these, 75 accidents were fatal, 226 were serious and 113 were minor.

The Directorate spokesperson Nampiima Faridah says there were 404 accident victims during this period and out of these 89 people died and 315 sustained injuries.

The region of Kampala North registered the highest 09 people died and 41 were injured, Mbarara registered 08 deaths, Mityana highway 07 deaths, Greater Bushenyi registered 06 deaths, Lugazi, Soroti, Tororo, kmp South and kmp East all registered 05 deaths among others.

“We appeal to all road users to use the roads with due care,” cautions police.

School operators who are using saloon cars as school vans and over load children yet such vehicles are not licensed for this duty are strongly warned to stop it with immediate effect. “Traffic police will impound these vehicles and inconvenience children and the parents which both of us would have avoided,” adds Police.

Nampiima has further reminded all road users thus; “road safety begins with you. Avoid behaviours that would lead you to miss use the road. We expect every road user to be considerate to each other.”
