Kampala: Sumbwe Community was just the beginning of great things yet to happen to communities around the recently commissioned Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant.

This comes after the Member of Parliament-Mukono South, Hon. Fred Kayondo flanked by the General Manager Kampala Water-Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya launched the groundbreaking of the Katosi-Kisoga Water Supply project bound to serve over 650 households as well schools, churches, mosques and businesses.

Covering approximately 20 Kilometers, the project will cater to the people of; Sumbwe, the Katosi Landing Site, Nsanja, Nsumba, Ntenjeru and Kisoga Town Council.

Speaking to the media, Eng. Lutaaya stated that it was only in order to ensure stable and sustainable water supply to the communities, hinting at the fact that following the Water Plant’s commissioning in July, testing is almost done and it is now time to serve.

Lutaaya promised that in 3 months, each of the intended beneficiaries will have access to clean safe water from the Katosi Water Treatment Plant.

Hon. Kayondo said that as a community, the people should be custodians of the NWSC services and halt water theft. “This is something that benefits us so let us protect the assets of NWSC”, he cautioned.

Notably, the Kisoga-Katosi Water Supply project is fully funded by the Government of Uganda, will cost approximately 4 Billion shillings and is expected to be completed in three months.
