Gov’t ‘Connives’ With Company CEOs To Forcefully Channel Workers’ Salaries To COVID-19 Bank Accounts In Exchange For Tax Reductions!

By Spy Uganda

The government of Uganda has tactfully ‘instructed’ Chief Executive  Officers of all private companies in Uganda to deduct a percentage of salaries for their employees such that it can be channeled towards the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to the document letter seen by our reporter, each employee is supposed to forfeit atleast a minimum of shs10,000/- for the month of may, of which the company will collect into a pull and send to Codiv19 National Task Force Stanbic Bank accounts ably indicated in the leaked ‘proposal’.

The shocking revelation is enshrined in a letter dated May 12, 2020 from the Office of the Prime Minister drafted by the national Task force headed by minister in Prime minister’s office in charge of general duties, Mary Karooro Kobusingye Okurut mandated to handle the National Response team to COVID-19. Okurut was also appointed by president Museveni to head the National Codiv19 response team, in addition to her ministerial work in PM’s office.

Letter from the Office of the Prime Minister to all C.E.O calling upon them to make contributions to the COVID-19 fight

The letter, signed by Emmanuel Katongole, the Chairman, Uganda National Response Fund To COVID-19, and Patrick Mweheire, the Chairman, Fundraising Subcommittee National Reponse Fund to COVID-19 ‘requests’ all CEOs of all Companies in Uganda to deduct shs10,000/= from their employees’ salaries beginning with May 2020 and send it to Stanbic Bank Account numbers-UGX 9030017338551 and USD 9030017342974.

“As good corporate citizens, we would like to request each chief executive to extend our appeal to all your employees to dedicate part of May’s payroll and donate atleast shs10,000/= per employee to support the cause,” letter reads in part.

It should be remembered that most local companies and individual Ugandans have been greatly supporting the task force ever since the president made a public appeal. They’ve infact donated in billions in cash, physical food items, masks among other items.

The Gov’t has also received immense support from the international community. Currently, it’s estimated that Uganda Gov’t has received over shs8.8 trillion in form of grants, donations and loans from both international and local communities. This has however caused queries in regards to how much is has helped the intended poor.
