Panic As COVID-19 Sneaks Into Magamaga Military Barracks In Mayuge District

Magamaga Military Barracks in Mayuge district has reported its first COVID-19 case, TheSpy Uganda reports.

According to officials at the barracks, the confirmed positive case is a wife to People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier, who traveled to the barracks to attend to her husband who was sick.

Later on, after testing and confirmed the infection, the victim revealed to the barracks health officials that previously she was staying in Bombo military barracks though intelligence reports confirmed that she had travelled to Singo where she spent almost two weeks before she came to nurse her sick husband.

In one on one with Busoga sub region UPDF spokesperson, George Musinguzi he told us that the couple who includes the UPDF officer whose names are withheld on request, husband to the COVID-19 victim was quarantined and after taking their samples the soldier tested negative, while the wife tested positive.

Musinguzi added that the victim’s contacts have also been quarantined at the barracks premises though declined to divulge into their details. 

He further said that the district surveillance team received the victim’s results late but she was successfully evacuated from the barracks and transferred to the Jinja Hospital Isolation Unit for further management. More details on this in our next issue.
