Nakasongola, Uganda: One person died on spot and nine others sustained injuries after a Gaaga bus they were traveling in got involved in a nasty accident in Migyera Township, Nakasongola district, on Saturday January 26th, 2019.
Traffic Police officers who reached the scene shortly after the tragedy identified the deceased as Francis Ocowun, a Pastor at Christ the King Church in Ntebbe Village in Zeu Sub County, Zombo district. Those who sustained injuries include; Jimmy Mugiza, Rebecca Oloso, Maloso Suzima, Alfred Ngabig, Sylvia Onen, Musa Shakira and others. Many of the travelers were Congolese nationals. According to Ogwal Khasule, the Nakasongola District Police Traffic Officer, the accident occurred around 1:30Am at Kibira zone in Migyera Township. Ogwal said that “A Gaagaa bus registration number UAP 765H destined for Kampala rammed into a stationary trailer registration number UAW 766T/UAS 116K belonging to Panfric company before it overturned.” He added that “One person died on spot and nine others sustained injuries.
The injured sustained multiple wounds and were rushed to Nakasongola health center 1V before they were evacuated to various hospitals in Kampala for better management.” Ogwal blamed the bus driver for driving recklessly to the extent of not seeing a parked vehicle on the roadside. The police are still conducting investigations into what caused the accident.
