Kampala: The Speaker of the Uganda’s 11th parliament , Anita Among, has expressed gratitude following her meeting as she shared light moments with Holy Father Pope Francis in Rome Italy.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philemon 4:6,” Among wrote shortly after meeting the Holy man of God.

Among who left on Tuesday evening for Rome, Italy was invited by Pope Francis to have an opportunity to greet the Holy Father at the conclusion of the general audience.

“The Protocol Section of the Secretariat of State wishes to invite the Hon. Anita Among to greet the Holy Father on Wednesday 24 August next in the” baciamo” at the conclusion of the Generel Audience” the invitation from the Vatican noted.

Speaking shortly before her departure from Entebbe Airport, Among expressed her delight about the opportunity to meet the Pope, which she said will be a humbling experience.

“I look forward to a fulfilling experience with the Holy Father and fellowship with my sisters and brothers” she said.

Several Ugandan leaders have been welcomed to Rome in the past decade, and a record three Popes have visited Uganda since 1969.

Pope Francis’ visit in 2015 made Uganda the first African country to host three different reigning popes.

Uganda was the only African country visited by Pope Paul VI during his 15-year reign at the Vatican. He came to Uganda in 1969 and  Pope John Paul II who visited Uganda in February 1993.
