One suspect, Sadad Bwambale, 27, a resident of Kamaiba Cell in Central Division of Kasese Municipality, was arrested for allegedly attempting to torch Nabi’s Church in Biguli Cell, Biguli Ward of Biguli Town Council in Kamwenge District.

According to Central Police Station Kamwenge in Rwenzori West Policing Region, on Saturday at around 2:00 pm, two suspects rode a motorcycle number UFE 568/A Bajaj boxer to Nabi’s Church while in possession of petrol in a green bag and a polythene paper.

The two men are said to have tried to set the church and three motorcycles belonging to the believers on fire a move that was foiled by the believers and the security guard, who pursued them towards the Kyegegwa borderline and managed to arrest only one suspect by the names of Sadad Bwambale after the other suspect took off.

Reports have it that Biguli Police Station, swiftly responded to the scene, recovered the exhibits. Preliminary findings indicate that the believers sleep in an incomplete building without shutters, which made it easier for the suspects to carry out their mission.

Reports quote SP Nasibu Kidimu Nditta, the DPC Kamwenge, for confirming the incident but stated that the suicidal motive was yet to be established.

The DPC also reportedly discouraged church leaders from hosting their followers in unfinished structures to protect them from threats to their lives, especially during the night.
