Kampala: Police in Kira Road last night carried out a joint operation on enforcing Ministry of Health guidelines in Ntinda and Kiwatule after receiving several complaints from residents that some crowds gather in a certain apartment located in Balintuma village near Firidina Road to drink alcohol without observing MoH COVID-19 guidelines despite virus’ rapid transmission.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the crowds could not only drink alcohol but also loudly played music hence causing noise pollution in the area that disrupted the peace of wanainchi (ordinary people) and also defied the Presidential directives.

“There was fear that their inconsiderate behavior could spread Covid-19 within the village” Onyango said.

The police officers after being alerted, accessed the apartment and managed to arrest seven suspects while others took off after seeing police.

Onyango says that those they managed to arrest are all currently detained at Kira Road Police on charges of disobedience of lawful orders and also doing a negligent act likely to spread infectious disease

In the same vein, Kabalagala carried out another operation in Bunga at Nomads Bar where 49 people including the owner of the bar Fred Kamau and his eight managers were arrested . “All are currently detained at Kabalagala police station” Onyango asserted.
