The Police in Kaboong District have arrested six people over allegations of murdering a Local Defence Unit (LDU) operative, who was hacked into pieces on Thursday night.

Paul Apeyo, who was a LDU operative in Kaboong District, was murdered on  July 23, 2020 by people who waylaid him in  Kalapata township and chopped him into pieces until he died, leaving his body lying in a pool of blood.

Jino Lopeto,  the Kalapata LC 3 Chariperson, said that prior to the murder, Apeyo  had spent the day in a bar with friends drinking until  evening when he left to return to camp.

“It is suspected that he was followed by some people who attacked him as he returned home,” Lopeto said.

Gerald Gubira, the Kaboong District Police Commander, confirmed Apeyo’s gruesome murder and revealed that the police are already hunting for his killers.

“We are hunting for all the people he was drinking with on the fateful day he met his death such that they can help us with investigations,” Gubira said.

He revealed that the suspects will be arraigned in court to face murder charges when investigations are completed.

By the time of filing this story Apeyo’s corpse had been taken to Kaboong Hospital  for postmortem  before it could be handed over to his relatives  for burial.

However, the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces(UPDF) is yet to issue a statement about Apeyo’s brutal murder.
