Police in Kampala has carried out an intelligence led operation and arrested over 17 suspects.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says they got information about suspected robbers hiding in Nabukenye’s bar/residences located in Budonian village, Mengo, Central Kampala and a joint team responded to the scene and mounted an operation, and arrested over 13 suspects with house break-in implements.
”The same group had a fight using a panga due to sharing of exhibits (loot) that was robbed in the night of 18th/06/23. Police conducted a search and recovered the implements to wit; a hammer, panga and padlock opener(locally made),” says Onyango.
He says suspects were jointly screened in the presence of local council leaders and 08 were charged of being in possession of house break-in implements.
There are suspects that were got with fresh wounds that was as a result of their fight after failing to share the loot. They are;
Sselukambo Abdul, Nkurunziza John and Mukwaya Haqsam.
After screening suspects, the following were charged accordingly:-
1-Kalema Ronald, a resident of Budonian village
2-Ssegujja Tonny, a resident of Nabulagala Monaco.
3-Kakooza Isaac, a resident of Budonian village
4-Sselukambo Abdul, a resident of Budonian village
5-Nandala Eric ( Budonian village)
6-Makoomu abudallah (Nalukoloongo)
7- Nkurunziza John (Nanozi village)
8- Mukwaya hakisam (Nanozi village).
In a related development, Police at Old Kampala have arrested nine (09) suspects during an operation in the areas of Bakuli market (behind Total fuel petrol station). The operation mainly targeted hardcore criminals.
”This was due to public outcry and increased criminality in the area. Residents had reported cases such as phone snatching, opium and marijuana smoking, and robberies among others,” says Onyango.
Those arrested are;
-Lungiso Jamir
-Annes David
-Mulangira Ronald
-Kyeune Derick
-Edirisa Edie
-Agaba Pacias
-Mwine Abbias
-Sebagala Moses
All the above suspects are currently detained at Old Kampala Police station.
