Kampala: The Makerere University fraternity is mourning the death of a third year student of Pharmacy, Viola Namulindwa, who was found dead in her hostel over the weekend.
Namulindwa was found dead at the Hollywood hotel after neighbours noticed a stench emanating from her room.
Deputy Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said that “After being alerted the hostel custodian, Henry Kitaka, the police went to the hostel and broke into her room, where they found the body. Police suspects she died of electrocution.”
Enanga added that “Namulindwa requested Kitaka to allow her stay at the hostel while doing research as her colleagues broke off for Christmas holiday, only for her to die under unclear circumstances.”
Police said neighbours last saw Namulindwa on December 12, 2019 preparing porridge. Her body was removed by police on Saturday and taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem. Her relatives have since been informed.
Namulindwa is said to have had no roommate. Enanga has since cautioned everyone who owns electric gadgets to be aware of the dangers of having uninsulated cables as the police investigates what could have actually caused her death.
