Kampala: After an attack on City Mogul Sudhir’s son Rajiv Ruparelia in the morning by counter terrorism police officers while jogging around his father’s home in Kololo, Uganda police has spoken out.
It was earlier today reported by TheSpy Uganda that a speedy van filled with counter terrorism officers beat up Rajiv Ruparelia, leaving him nursing wounds something that left a lot of questions to his friends wondering what could have caused these officers to misbehave.
It is alleged that a van with about seven police guards who were not in official Police uniform nor police patrol, reached at Rajiv along the road and jumped out of the van like commandos and the next thing was racial insults and beating.
It is against this background that Uganda Police Force through it’s spokes persons Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson and the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire have come out to clear the air on the rumors that took social media by storm.
Through audio clips tracked by our reporter, Owoyesigyire confirmed that the officers who had a scuffle with Rajiv are their counter terrorism police officers attached to Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda, and were heading to his residence to guard him.
“Police at Kira Road is investigating the issue that happened between Rajiv Ruparelia and our officers of counter terrorism attached to Bank of Uganda that were heading to guard at the Deputy Governor’s residence. So Investigations are ongoing and we shall get to the depth of the matter.” Luke said.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango asserted Luke’s statement saying officers seen in the video battling with Rajiv are their counter terrorism officers who are attached to Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda.
“Officers seen in the video are our counter terrorism officers who are attached to Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda. We are going to investigate the matter to its depth.” Onyango said.
It should be remembered that Sudhir family and BoU have been in endless Court battles over his controversially closed Crane Bank and six others. Infact, the latest court ruling was few days ago in which Sudhir still floored them flat is now demanding for bills of money in compensation. This could be looked at as a deliberate act.
The previous ruling which was on June 23rd, 2020, the Court of Appeal in Kampala dismissed an appeal that had been filed against Sudhir by Bank of Uganda and Crane Bank in receivership, contesting Justice David Wangutusi’s 2019 ruling, in which he declared that BoU illegally wound up Crane Bank and sold it to dfcu bank under dubious circumstances.
This was after Hon. Justice Wangutusi dismissed the UGX397 billion case against Mr.Ruperalia on a technicality, alleging that Crane Bank (in Receivership) lost its powers to “sue” and to “be sued”, thus rendering its suit a nullity, Crane Bank (in Receivership) maintains that receivership is a management situation, and hence no legal change as to capacity of a company to sue and be sued.
