Kampala: Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is smiling from ear to ear after the Uganda police finally allowing him to stage music concerts during the Easter season. SpyUganda has learnt that after a series of talks between the Uganda police and the organisers of Bobi Wine’s concerts who include Abtex Promotions and Bajjo Events, the singer turned politician was given the green light to hold his concerts. Insiders reveal that he was given strict instructions of not turning his concerts into political rallies if he wants to stage them successfully and that failure to adhere to this will prompt the police to intervene.
Bobi will hold ‘Engule Mu Kyarenga’ concert at his One Love Beach in Busabala on Easter Sunday and  the other gigs at various venues in different parts of the country. Bobi Wine, who heads the People Power pressure group, was last year banned from staging music concerts in Kampala because of using such gigs to attack government and giving opposition politicians platform to do the same. The police started by banning Bobi Wine from staging his ‘Kyarenga’ concert at Namboole stadium and later at One Love Beach in Busabala.  The Police also later  barred Bobi Wine from staging another concert at on Boxing Day, yet they okayed Bebe Cool to stage his at Kiwatule Recreation Centre.
However, after banning the concerts, government ended up coughing billions of shillings to compensate events promoters who had lost lots money following the cancellation of  Bobi’s concerts.  Bobi also launched a tirade of attacks at police for allowing other musicians like Bebe Cool to stage concerts yet they had denied him the same chance, which Bobi said portrayed the police as being partisan and tainted its image.
