Police Rescues Kidnapped Priest After Family Pays Heavy Ransom

The police on Wednesday morning recovered Rev. Isaac Mwesigwa,  a priest of the Church of Uganda who had reportedly been kidnapped by armed men on Sunday’s evening.

According to sources Rev. Mwesigwa was found alive in Soroti, where he had been dumped by the alledged kidnappers .

However, although the police are still tight-lipped about the matter, sources reveal that Rev. Mwesigwa was released by the kidnappers after his relatives coughed millions of shillings as ransom.

It is said that initially the kidnappers had demanded for Shs500m, but after bargaining with the family members they managed to raise over Shs100m, which led to  Rev. Mwesigwa’s release.

The kidnappers had earlier on demanded  to either receive the ransom money or return Mwesigwa’s body.

Mweisgwa, who is the Assistant Vicar of St John’s Cathedral – Kasaka,Central Buganda Diocese was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Sunday in Mukono, who abandoned his car at City Resort, a hangout in Seeta, before driving him to Soroti district, where they dumped him.

Following his recovery, Soroti diocese handed him over to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali, who will come with him to Kampala sooner or later.

The Reverend could not make  statement about his horrible kidnap by the time of filing this story and the police declined to divulge details, saying it would jeopardize their investigations.
