Police Shoot One, As 3 Flee In Foiled Armed Robbery At Centenary Bank

The police in Kampala on Saturday shot one suspected bank robbers and are currently hunting for three others who tried to rob money from Centenary Bank in Nansana, a city suburb.

Our Spies reveal that the suspect was shot in the abdomen as police tried to foil a robbery at Centenary Bank, which he and the other suspects on the run had masterminded.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Oweyesire, the suspect identified as Yazi Lule had hatched a plot together with his accomplices to rob the bank not knowing that the police had been tipped off.

“Police started trailing the suspects who were driving in a white Premio car number UAW 960X after we got intelligence that they were planning to  rob Centenary Bank in Nansana, Masitoowa zone.

So we deployed security personnel who managed to reach in time, thwart the robbery and disabled one of them, who will help us with investigations,” Oweyesigire said.

He added that “They had a pistol and although the three, who include  a woman escaped, our teams are hunting for them and together they will be paraded in court to face charges of armed robbery.

A security guard  at the Bank only identified as Parma said that “I saw three people who included woman coming out of a white Premio car, which they had parked across the road. They came and asked us; is the bank working today? I told them the Bank was closed.  Then they went back to their car but a few seconds later bullets started being fired.

However, Lule, who was later rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention, told the police that he not a robber and had just been hired as a special higher driver by people who had told that they were going to pick money from Centenary Bank.    

By the time of filing this article, the Management of Centenary Bank had not yet issued an official statement about the incident.
