Police Speak Out On Ugandan Shot Dead During City Protests

The Uganda police have issued a statement about David Kibuuka, who was shot dead by anti-riot police on Tuesday morning in Kabowa, Sembule Zone, Rubaga division, Kampala.

It is said that Kibuuka and other locals were protesting the blockage of a community road by a factory in the area. During the scuffles yet to be identifies  a police officer shot Kibuuka in the chest, killing him instantly.

Following  the incident, the police deputy spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire has since issued a statement, which reads thus;”Today at around 10:30Am along Wankulukuku Road  in Sembule Zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala there was an illegal protest at a factory over closure of a community road.

Police officers from Kironde police post led by the Officer in  Justus Bwire responded to the incident to restore peace.


It’s alleged the  residents  refused to vacate the area despite police warning.

One of the police officers fired bullets to disperse the protesters. In the process, one of the protesters, David Kibuuka, a resident and publicist of the area was shot and injured.


The police officers rushed him to Mulago National Referral Hospital where  was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kibuuka’s body has been taken for postmortem and evidence will be crucial in our investigation of the death.Kampala Metropolitan Police have started investigating the death of Kibuuka.

Assistant Superintend of Police Justus Bwire, who led the team has been arrested and detained at Old Kampala Division police and investigations continue.

Our teams have been sent back to the scene to collect evidence which will be important in the investigation. We also call upon residents in the area to remain calm as police investigate the matter.
