The Uganda Police Force (UPF) together with the Local Defence Unit (LDU) have started arresting all Ugandans found in public places not wearing masks.
Spy Uganda reveals that the operation to arrest people without face masks started in Kampala on Saturday June 13, 2020, after the Police and LDU arrested several people, including those who were found wearing the masks on their chins.
Everyone who was arrested was bundled onto a waiting police truck and driven to Central Police Station (CPD) Kampala, where they will be charged with breaching the Presidential and Ministry of Health Guideline at fighting the spread of Coronavirus.
It should be noted that President Museveni recently issued a directive to all Ugandans to wear face masks as one of the measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
“I must reiterate the most important point of the moment in our country. Coronavirus can be defeated through discipline, vigilance and enforcement of the guidelines given by the scientists. This is not just a matter of policing, its about your life as Ugandans,” President Museveni said on Thursday.
This week the Minister for Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng flagged off the first consignment of masks that were given out to Ugandans by government and are to be distributed in various districts.
Following the easing of the lockdown, Museveni recently warned that many Ugandans, especially in Kampala, are not complying with health rules and risk tough times ahead if they don’t adhere to guidelines to combat the spread of COVID-19.
