Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi has been summoned by police to record a statement on murder, treason and terrorism related charges.
In a letter dated January 18 and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Rt.Hon.Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga,
police says the crimes were committed between 2014 and 2015.
The letter, sanctioned and signed by the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, requests the Speaker of Parliament to implore MP Kasozi to appear before Commandant CID Kampala Metropolitan on January 24 (last Wednesday). But flamboyant Kasozi failed to appear on the appointed date.
“Summon to record statement with police in respect of case of conspiracy to commit crime vide Kajjansi CRB 81/ 2014,” a letter dated January 18th 2018 reads in part.“This request is in pursuant of section 27(a) of police Act on subject of procurement of information,” Gen Kayihura wrote. In 2005, during the trial of suspects linked to the alleged treasonous activities of Ugandan Canadian based cardiologist Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, Ibrahim Kasozi’s name was cited as one of the accomplices, together with Dr.Kiyingi’s sister inLaw Aisha Nakasibante.
However, it never came out clearly whether it was the Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi on the charge sheet or another unknown person with similar names.
Police spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima neither denied nor confirmed the summons
“I don’t know about the matter but send me the letter. I have not seen any please send it to me,” Kayima said on phone.
A family member to the embattled MP who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the treason and murder charges have left the legislator puzzled.
