Kampala, Uganda: The police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) have summoned singer Douglas Mayanja aka Weasel, Musinguzi Emotions and Geoffrey Kyagambidwa aka Chagga over allegations of plagiarizing the musical works of late singer Moses Sekibogo aka Mowzey Radio.
Weasel and others are accused of recomposing, producing and selling Radio’s music without license or the copyright owner’s knowledge and express consent of Angel Music Ltd. Spy Uganda has learnt that the estate and music companies of Radio were subjected to the office of the Administrator General, which advised Radio’s mother to file a complaint at Kibuli police. The CID spokesperson SP Vincent Ssekate told our reporter that “It is alleged that late Mowzey Radio had a music company called Goodlyfe Magic Company in which Weasel had shares. However, it is stated that before Radio died, he and weasel had fallen out over some matters and he had created another music company called Angel Music Ltd, where Radio was the sole owner. The main motive behind this company was that every song that Radio released would be counted under Angel Music Ltd, not Goodlyfe.”
It is also alleged that before he died, Radio had plans of releasing his new album under his company on January 25th, 2019 which he never did. Sources at Kibuli CID told our reporter that when Radio died, someone stole the hard disc on which he had saved his album but family members put the person on pressure until it was recovered. However, by then some of the newly composed songs were missing. Radio’s family and the Administrator General told police that some songs were sold to different musicians, who are planning to launch them tomorrow at Jose Chameleon’s DNA bar based in Kololo. The CID spokesperson confirmed to Spy Uganda that the three have been summoned to the Media Crimes office to answer questions in regard to that matter.
