Kampala; Kampala Metropolitan Police has sent serious warnings to promoters, artists and comedians who are planning to participate in demonstrations tomorrow at National Theater.
According to deputy police spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Area, Asp Luke Owoyesigyire, although demonstrations are considered to be human rights, organizers must do so through lawful means and if they fall police will deploy strategically in order to stop them from unlawful acts.
Official Statement Released By Deputy PRO KMP Reads:
“The territorial police of Kampala Metropolitan Area has noted with concern messages on social media and distributed leaflets urging the general public especially promoters ,artistes ,comedians and musicians ,to participate in demonstration tomorrow (March 31) at the national theater in Kampala city.
Although demonstrations are human right,organizers must follow required of lawful processes before demonstrations.
Currently ,gatherings that are likely to lead to the spread of COID-19 virus are prohibited in accordance to ministry of Health guidelines.
Police will enforce the guidelines to the letter.
We advise the organizers to desist in engaging in unlawful demonstrations.
The police will deploy Strategically in order to stop any unlawful act from taking place.
We call upon the organizers of these demonstrations to opt for other lawful ways of passing on their grievances with out disrupting the day to day running of business in Kampala city which is currently peaceful.”
