President Museveni Appoints First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba As New CDF Replacing Gen Wilson Mbadi

Kampala: President Museveni who is also Commander in Chief (CiC) of Uganda’s armed forces has appointed First Son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) replacing Gen. Wilson Mbadi who has been appointed as the State Minister for Trade in the recent cabinet reshuffle.

The development has been confirmed by the UPDF Spokesperson Brig Felix Kulayigye who also highlighted other appointments and promotions including; Lt Gen Sam Okiding as the Deputy CDF, replacing Gen Peter Elwelu who has been appointed as a presidential advisor, Maj Gen Jack Agonza Bakasumba Joint Chief of Staff in UPDF, taking over Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda who will now serve as a defense attaché.

Meanwhile, Brigadier David Mugisha, the Special Forces commander has been promoted to the rank of Major General while Col Asaph Nyakikuru, SFC Commander also has also been promoted from to the rank of Brigadier from Colonel.

It is worth noting that President Museveni last month (February) presented the UPDF Establishment 2021, an instrument of delegated Command, Control, and Administration, to then CDF Gen. Mbadi, to command all elements of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) but now the latest reshuffle thrown him into the trade ministry.
