Kampala: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed his appreciation for city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia for the success of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) in organizing the recently concluded Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77 + China Summits held in Uganda.
President Museveni made the comments as he hosted the NOC members at State House Entebbe on January 31, 2024 and expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sudhir, Ms. Lucy Nakyobe who was the chairperson for NOC and the entire team behind the success of the two diplomatic summits.
“I thank Dr Sudhir, Nakyobe and her team as well as the super supervisor Nakadama, Nabbanja and everybody who was involved. Thank you very much,” President Museveni said.
He extended his thanks to God, attributing Uganda’s success to divine blessings and highlighting the rejection of sectarianism based on religion, tribe, and race as a key factor in attracting diverse participants which has seen the likes of Dr Sudhir and other Indians do multibillion investments in Uganda.
President Museveni emphasized the role of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) vision in bringing together individuals like Sudhir Ruparelia, representing various nationalities and backgrounds. He encouraged the committee and Ugandans to leverage the summit’s benefits for the country’s development, stressing the importance of contributing meaningfully to the work of NAM and G-77.

“Now by the NRM rejecting this sectarianism of religion, tribe, race; that is how you get all the Sudhirs, the Chinese, Indians, the Arabs, the Africans of all these countries who are here. So, you can see that the vision plays a role in bringing all these people here. We should not only host a good conference but make a good contribution to the content of the work of NAM and G-77 by taking advantage of things which are already happening on the ground because I’m telling you South to South investment is already taking place, so it is a question of acquainting what is already happening,” he noted.
Rt.Hon. Rukia Nakadama, the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, affirmed their commitment to continuous improvement, aiming to make Uganda a consistent host for successful international gatherings. She thanked the organizing committee members, participating nations, and the President for their support, urging everyone to reflect on achievements, learn from experiences, and fortify their determination for future endeavors.
“Once again I thank you all the members of the organizing committee and the participating nations and of course H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda and Maama who were also behind this team to see that everything goes on right. Let us use this occasion to celebrate our accomplishments, learn from our experiences and strengthen our resolve for future endeavors,” Hon. Nakadama said.
Ms. Lucy Nakyobe who is also the head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for entrusting them with the organizing committee’s responsibility further acknowledging the significance of the President’s recognition and praised the committee members for their hard work, dedication, and contribution to the success of the NAM and G-77 Summits
“This luncheon speaks great volumes for what is on the heart of Mzee and Maama. It means that they are very happy, and they have appreciated what we have done. Thank you Mzee for entrusting us with this work and I want to thank all of you for doing what you ought to have done,” Ms. Nakyobe said.
Ms. Nakyobe also congratulated President Museveni on attaining the chairmanship of NAM and G-77, highlighting the widespread happiness and appreciation resulting from the well-executed summits.
“Mzee this is a very big recognition to us the committee and we don’t take it for granted because very many people have done good things, but they don’t get the kind of appreciation that we have got.”
Why President Museveni Commended Dr Sudhir
Sudhir Ruparelia in conjunction with the government of Uganda undertook the timely construction of the state-of-the-art Convention Centre at Munyonyo which hosted the NAM Summit and the G77 China last month.
