President Museveni Launches New Factory That Manufactures COVID-19 N95 Masks

In a bid to enhance the production of face masks, which are vital in the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19), President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday launched Lida Packaging  Products Ltd, a new factory that makes N95 medical face masks and other assorted products.

LIDA is Uganda’s first National Drug Authority (NDA) and UNBS Certified surgical mask factory.

So far, five companies have been certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), to produce masks that are for both local and export use.

Shortly after launching the factory, President Museveni took to twitter and wrote thus; “Commissioned Lida Packaging Products Limited in Mbalala, Mukono District. This company has a production capacity of 560,000 masks per day and is currently employing 315 Ugandan youth with more expected.”

He added that “We have the capacity to produce many things here because we have the raw materials. We have injected money in Uganda Development Bank to support manufacturers with low interest loans and enhance production.”

It should be noted that President Museveni a few days a go issued a directive that requires all Ugandans to wear facmask when appearing in public places, offices and all places where people meet in big numbers.

He also revealed that the government will distribute free masks to all Ugandans by June 4th, 2020, since they have been found to be vitalmin the fight against COVID-19.
