Kampala: Makerere University says it has received a letter from the President confirming his directive for Professors at all public Universities to start earning Shs15m per month.

This was revealed on Thursday October 17, 2019 by Edward Nector Mwavu, the Acting Chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA), during a press conference at Makerere University.
Mwavu said “The Presidential pledge dated back 2014 has finally been realized following a meeting held on August 13th 2019 at State House Entebbe.”

Mwavu added that “This will allow the staff to focus on teaching, research and innovations for national transformation as well as improving the wellbeing of staff in public universities.”

In 2014 president Museveni pledged to raise a professor’s gross salary at public Universities to Shs15m per month by financial year 2019/2020, which has over the years caused agitations among academic staff

Mwavu urged the implementing bodies not to frustrate the presidential directive
