Independent Online Journalists Association (Indoja-U) President Andrew Irumba Katusabe, has tasked security operatives to produce detained DigiTalk journalists in court or release them immediately.

In a statement released this morning, online journalists president says as media, they condemn these arbitrary arrests and think they’re intended to further ‘eat’ into media freedoms and freedom of speech.

DigiTalk is an online-based media house.

“We’ve also noted with concern that now security also targets the equipment of journalists, once arrested with them, on release, you hardly get them back. DigTalk studio equipment was all vandalized and taken along. No records of what was taken and by who was made,” Irumba further stated.

According to eyewitnesses, DigiTalk journalists who were covering a presser of political activist and author Norman Tumuhimbise during the preparations for the launch of his two books on 30th this month, were Thursday raided by plain-clothed men, arrested, and whisked away in a “drone”.

Norman Tumuhimbise is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Alternative Movement non-profit group. The book he was launching is titled “The Komanyoko Politics of Uganda, Liars and Accomplices”.

The book highlights the excesses, corruption and human rights violations of the Ugandan government since 1986 when President Museveni took over power.

TheSpy Uganda has since learn that those arrested are;

1-Norman Tumuhimbise
2-Mukose Arnold Anthony
3-Lulian Luwedde
4-Turyamuhabwe Rodgers
5-Teddy Teangle Nabukeera
6-Tumusiime Kato
7-Wabyona Jeje Jacob

These kinds of arrests comes at a time when Uganda is still facing criticism both within and abroad, over the arrest and torture of Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, another author for his criticism of Museveni leadership.

Kakwenza, who has since fled to Germany, was arrested in December 2021 and resurfaced a month later with wounds on his back and lower body.
