Professor Edward Rugumayo Appointed Chancellor Mountains Of The Moon University

HE.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Professor Edward Bitanywaine Rugumayo as the Chancellor Mountains of the Moon University that was recently acquired by Government with the aim of addressing the issue of regional balance and equity since there was no public University in the Rwenzori sub-region.

Being one of the co-founders of the institution in 2005, Professor Rugumayo had served in a similar capacity when the the institution was still private.

For those who didn’t know Rugumayo, is a Ugandan politician, diplomat, author, academic and environmentalist. He previously served as cabinet minister in three Ugandan administrations. From 1979 until 1980, Rugumayo served as the Chairman of the Uganda Legislative Council.

His appointment has been confirmed in a statement ked by by the University Secretary Dr.Kagambe Edmond confirming that his appointment takes immediate effect.

Following the provisions of Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), and on the recommendation of the University Council, His Excellency the President of Uganda has appointed Professor Edward Bitanywaine Rugumayo for a fouryear term as a Chancellor of Mountains of the Moon University with immediate effect,” partially reads Kagambe’s statement.

It adds; ”We are thankful to His Excellency the President of Uganda and the University Council for recognising Professor Edward Bitanywaine Rugumayo distinguished service as a Politician, Diplomat, Author, Academic and Environmentalist and granting him the opportunity to serve Mountains of the Moon University as the first Chancellor as a Public University.

The University community extend warmest congratulations to Professor Edward Bitanywaine Rugumayo on his appointment and pledges full support during his tenure of service.”
