Kampala: The police in Kampala are investigating the cause of fire that gutted Park View Arcade over the weekend and destroyed properties worth millions of shillings.
The burnt several property Paradise Cafe, a restaurant on Park View Arcade along Kampala’s Burton Street, leaving furniture and other property reduced to ashes.
Spy Uganda talked to some eyewitnesses at the scene who are street vendors that assisted in fighting the fire until the police came in and put out the fire.
Fortunately, all the other restaurants around the premises were not affected since the fire was put out before it spread to other shops.
However, it took sometime for the fire brigade team to access Park View Arcade because of the ongoing construction that is taking place in the area.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire, told journalists that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
He however added that investigations are ongoing to identify the exact cause of the fire.
“We suspect that it could have been a stove that was left burning or an issue to do with electricity. But all that of course will come out and be proved with a report later on,” he noted.
