Property Worth Millions Destroyed As Fire Guts Joint Medical Stores Warehouse In Kampala

Kampala: A massive fire has gutted warehouses owned by Joint Medical Stores on 5th street, Industrial Area in Kampala destroying property estimated to be in millions.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to put out the fire to save the entire infrastructure from going up in flames.

According to an eyewitness, the fire destroyed property in warehouses owned by Joint Medical Stores, Blue Band, and Mi-Tech electronics located on 5th street.

The witness further noted that the fire was ignited by sparks from welding work that was going on inside one of the warehouses.

However, the actual cause of the fire and the nature of the property destroyed are yet to be established.

A video recorded on-site shows workers trying to save property as the fire brigade battled the flames and a huge cloud of black smoke covered the skies.

According to Red Cross Uganda, a humanitarian agency reported that no casualties had been registered by press time adding that the Police fire Brigade responded in time.

The private pharmaceutical store serving at least 3000 medical facilities was established in 1979 as a joint venture between Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) and Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB).

Joint Medical Store is licensed by National Drug Authority to engage in the import, export, wholesale of medicines and related health care supplies.
