Kampala: Residents of Kakeeka zone, in Mengo, are shedding buckets of tears after they lost property worth hundreds of millions of shillings in fire that gutted six houses on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the fire, whose cause is yet to be established, burnt six houses, a vehicles and other valuables after it broke out around Kakeeka zone near Buganda Royal Institute.
Although no fatalities had been reported by the time of filing this story, the police fire brigade revealed that the houses were burnt to ashes and a preliminary assessment report indicates that 28 people were affected and left homeless.
Luckily, the fire brigade had arrived in time to fight the inferno before it could spread to other houses. The police are currently conducting investigations into what could have caused the fire, although the affected people have since cried out to government and Good Samaritans to come to their rescue with relief aid.
