Ramadan Walking Football Cup: Uganda Beat Ghana

Ramadan Walking Football Cup was organised recently at Al Jazeer Academy under the patronage of the Walking Football Federation Qatar President Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed. It was sponsored by Lulu.

The Ugandan team emerged victorious in the final, beating Ghana in a closely contested match. The third place went to the Sri Lankan team which also had a tough opponent in the Doha team who came fourth.

Nigeria came 5th, losing closely to the Doha team.

The prize-giving ceremony was led by WFFQ President Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed, Ambassador of Ghana HE Mohamed Nurudeen Ismaila, Ambassador of El Salvador HE Milton Alcides Magana, Ambassador of Haiti HE Francois Guilaume ll, Ambassador of Guyana HE Safraaz Ahmed Shadood, Deputy Head of Mission North Macedonia Kristina Lebarik, Charge D’affaires of Nigeria Rabiu Sulaiman and Lulu Regional Operations Manager Simon Alexander.

Walking football is the fastest-growing sports concept in the world. Its fast walk, no tackle, the safe concept is attracting a lot of people of all ages between 25 to 60 years.

Lulu has been a very keen supporter of Walking Football in Qatar, said Al Sayed. Walking Football Federation Qatar is planning a league in 2023 which will commence soon.

In another news, Uganda is facing Kenya in the Barthes Trophy.

The 2023 edition has attracted eight teams in Africa. The winner of the tourney will book a ticket of this year’s World Rugby Junior Trophy that will also be held in Kenya come July.

Last year, Kenya thrashed Uganda 54-20 in quarterfinals before losinmg to Namibia 16-5 in semi-final.
