Fort Portal City was abuzz with celebration as Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) held its grand graduation ceremony on Saturday. Among the hundreds of graduates was none other than Nesta Larry, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Fort Portal, whose journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Nesta, who has spent years captivating audiences as a radio presenter, has now added another feather to his cap by earning a diploma in law. His passion for education and justice does not stop there—he is also currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in law at UPU, a pursuit that he describes as “interesting and refreshing.”
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Justice Richard Butera and Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebale. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the chief guest, announced a generous contribution of UGX 10 million towards the construction of UPU’s permanent home, with President Yoweri Museveni also contributing UGX 20 million.
Nesta’s story is one of resilience and ambition. His journey began on the airwaves, first as a sports and music presenter on Kampala African Radio, a station owned by the legendary Pan Africanist Dr. Kihura Nkuba. From there, he transitioned to the government-run Star FM, then to Engigyito FM in Mbarara, before taking a bold step to establish his own station—93.3 Gold FM, Empotole, in Fort Portal. This venture, co-owned with his best friend Dr. Yigga Sirajje, solidified his influence in the media landscape.
Despite his deep roots in radio, Nesta never stopped dreaming bigger. His foray into governance as Deputy RCC of Fort Portal was a testament to his leadership abilities, and now, his legal studies mark the beginning of yet another remarkable chapter in his life.
As he embarks on this new academic journey, Nesta Larry stands as an inspiration to many—proof that one can continuously evolve and achieve greatness, no matter where they start. Congratulations, Nesta! The legal world awaits your brilliance. Congratulations once again 🙏
