Revealed! Here’s All You Need To Know About Victoria University’s Law Course & Why You Shouldn’t Hesitate To Go For It

By Spy Uganda

Earlier this week, one of the local dailies published a baseless article against Uganda’s most prestigious education hub, Victoria University, claiming that the institution doesn’t qualify to teach law courses.

The publication further claimed that Uganda Law Council had not found Victoria University fit to teach the above-mentioned course, something that left many in doubt wondering how a University that is on an international level lacks a mere qualification to teach law.

The allegations prompted our investigator to dig deeper into this matter and what has been discovered is nothing but purely naked truth as revealed below;

On 26th November 2018, the Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) wrote to the Law Council requesting it to review Victoria University’s academic standards before it’s approved to teach a Bachelor of Laws Degree.

”I forward the academic program for the proposed Bachelor of Laws Degree for Victoria University requesting for review and subsequent approval or disapproval and further requesting for the nomination of two experts to participate in the verification process to establish the adequacy of facilities and staffing levels,” partially reads NCHE’s letter to Law Council.

The above triggered a meeting at the Law Council held on 20th February 2019. Spy Uganda has learnt that in the meeting, programs of Victoria University were reviewed and council members Unanimously agreed that the proposed curricula sufficiently covered the required courses and there was no single reason for not approving the University.

As a result of the above, on 7th March 2019, the Council Secretary, Ms. Margaret Apiny inked a letter informing the NCHE that the University meets all requirements but recommended that an official inspection request be made which the University did and now awaiting a response from the NCHE.

”The Law Council Committee on legal education and training held its meeting on 20th February 2019 and reviewed the programs of Victoria University and observed that the proposed curricula sufficiently covered the required courses,” partially reads Ms. Margaret Apiny’s letter.

She adds, ”On the issue of the nomination of experts, to participate in the joint verification exercise, the committee maintained its earlier nominee Dr.Ronald D. Ruhweza for the above activity.”

On facilities and staffing, our investigator took a step and visited the University where he learnt from one of the law students [names withheld on condition of anonymity] that the University has the best-qualified staff compared to any private University in Uganda.

”To tell you the truth, I had my first year at a certain University here in Kampala, but the reality is, I was just wasting my money, till my father learnt about Victoria University and switched me here. Ever since I joined here, I have had nothing to regret regarding my course. We have well-trained and adequate staff, a well-equipped library with all law books you may think about,” said one of the law students our reporter interacted with.

The proud student who is in 2nd year added, ”By the way, i found here the best moot court in the country, perhaps better than some of the real courts of law in this country.”

Now, with the above letter, and the student’s testimony, our investigator found out that the propaganda made against Victoria University was purely baseless and worth trashing in the nearest pit.

Victoria University; Not Only Proven By NCHE But Also The President

On July 31, 2022, HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni approved a charter for Victoria University, after a series of inspections and visitations by the NCHE that proved the institution fit to award degrees from Bachelors, Masters, Doctorates, and Honorary Degrees, this is another sign that the University’s standard is on a higher level!

Remember, a charter is granted to universities that have demonstrated high quality in staffing, teaching and learning, research output, technology and practical-led learning, infrastructural development, and good governance, among others.

Also, remember that a charter is granted by the President as evidence that the university meets the requirements and standards of academic excellence set by the NCHE, meaning Victoria University’s capability to teach courses like law among others is more than enough and to prove this, enroll for the 2023 March intake, you will thank me later.

More Reasons Why Victoria University Is Ranked The Best

Having been ranked by the NCHE as the best in delivery of Emergency Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) with an impressive score of 86.1%, Victoria University has cemented its place as Uganda’s leading technologically – enabled university but is also considered the fastest growing and leading university in East Africa.

Worth noting, this is the first University approved to host an EON Reality Center in Uganda, paving the path to introduce Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology in education.

The University is Uganda’s only institution that offers a curriculum that focuses on both today and future’s workforce needs.

The University is part of the Ruparelia Group of Companies whose footprint in the education sector runs right from the foundational primary level to the highest level of education in Uganda. University’s sister schools include Kampala International School of Uganda, Kampala Parents School, and Delhi Public School International.

It’s the only higher institution of learning that offers its students the opportunity; to study anywhere, anytime, access free textbooks, and graduate with work experience.

The University has the capacity, facilities, and determination to revitalize higher education in Uganda and in the region with a commitment to play a leading role in bringing and developing high-quality education, and student-centered learning opportunities based on standards of excellence that are unique, innovative, and difficult to match.
