The sad news coming from Catholic Church indicates that the Emeritus Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Albert Edward Baharagate Akiiki has succumbed to yet to be known illness at 92.
According to Father Dominic Ndugwa Chancellor Hoima Diocese, Baharagate passed away on Wednesday night at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala where he was receiving treatment.
“Dear people of God, the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, The Rt Rev Vincent Kirabo with deep sorrow announces the death of the Bishop Emeritus of Hoima Catholic Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Albert Edward Baharagate Akiiki,” announced Fr Dominic.
Who Was Edward Baharagate
Bishop Albert Edward Baharagate was born on 25th February 1930 in Nyamigisa Village, in present-day Masindi District, in Bunyoro sub-region, in the Western Region of Uganda.
He was ordained a Priest on 7th December 1958 and appointed as Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Hoima on 7th July 1969 and he resigned on 9th March 1991.
Baharagate was one of the 12 bishops who were consecrated on August 1, 1969 by Pope Paul VI during a colorful ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
On 9th March 1991, he resigned as Bishop of Hoima and as of July 2019 and lived a quite life after serving in various capacities including being the National Chairman of the Uganda Red Cross Society.
